Volunteer at the festival and see movies for free!

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS! We could not have held PLATFORM without your help. For those who might wish to volunteer in the future, below are the 2007 guidelines for reference purposes only.

Would you like to be part of the Festival Team? PLATFORM welcomes those who are willing to give their time to help make our first year a great success. There will be opportunities for volunteers to assist in many aspects of the Festival and surrounding special events. Volunteers will play a valuable organizational role and also receive perks, including networking and free passes to many screenings and parties.

Here's how the volunteer passes work. You will receive credit for every hour of time you volunteer. It is important to note, however, that volunteer passes and vouchers are valid on a space available basis. This means that VIP's, filmmakers, and paid pass-holders will be granted entrance to Festival events first. A volunteer pass does not include admittance to the filmmaker's picnic on Wednesday, June 27th but can include the closing awards ceremony and awards party (again on a space available basis). Please note that closing events are likely to be very popular and space will be limited.

  • 18 hours of volunteer time will earn you a Full Pass (standby basis only)
  • 13 hours of volunteer time will earn you a Weekend Pass (valid after 6pm on Thursday, June 28th, standby basis only)
  • 6 hours of volunteer time will earn you a Day Pass (valid for events on any one given day, standby basis only)
  • 4 hours of volunteer time will earn you two passes to a screening (standby basis only)

PLATFORM needs volunteers in a number of places and capacities, including (but not limited to!): Airport Greeters, Box Office, Check-in, Drivers, Exhibitions & Special Events, General Support, Hospitality, Interpreters, Load-in / Load-out, Office Assistants (Portland and Los Angeles), Pass-makers, Press Room, Runners and Ushers (screenings, panels, workshops etc.)

PLATFORM will hold several Orientation and Sign-Up Evenings in Portland. Attendance at one orientation is required for any level of volunteer commitment (except for those volunteering in Los Angeles prior to the Festival).

Orientation and Sign-Up Evenings are currently scheduled to be held as follows:

  • Wednesday, June 13th (6-7pm in the PNCA Commons)
  • Friday, June 15th (6-7pm in the PNCA Commons)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and are responsible for their own lodging and insurance while providing services to PLATFORM.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I USE MY VOUCHER TO GET INTO SCREENINGS?

For each 4-hour shift volunteered, you will receive two free admittance vouchers to a screening (on a space-available basis). Remember 4 hours = 1 voucher.

CAN I VOLUNTEER BEFORE THE FESTIVAL?

Your time and support leading up to the festival is vital. Any hours volunteered before June 25, 2007 can be used to earn volunteer vouchers.

If you volunteer 18 pre-festival hours, you will earn a Full Pass, good for entry to Festival screenings, parties, workshops, exhibitions and certain events (on a space available basis).

If you volunteer 13 pre-festival hours, you will earn a Weekend Pass, good for entry into all Festival events after 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 28th, 2007, through the Awards Ceremony and Closing Party (on a space available basis).

If you volunteer 6 pre-festival hours, you will earn a Day Pass, good for entry to all screenings, parties, and other events on the given day (including the final Saturday Awards Ceremony and Closing Party) on a space available basis.

HOW DO I GET INTO PARTIES?

Volunteer passes can be used for PLATFORM parties on a space available basis. These passes are not valid for the filmmaker's picnic on Wednesday, June 27th.

WHAT ABOUT FOOD?

We will make every effort to provide snacks for our volunteers who are volunteering 6-8 hour shifts. We suggest you fuel up before, as you may not have time to eat during your shift.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY SHIFT?

Please check in at your venue at least fifteen minutes before your shift begins. Allow time for transportation and/or parking. Tri-met is suggested because parking can be difficult (and expensive!) to find.
